Emberfall Saga
Emberfall Saga is a proper little role-playing game that doesn't try to be an open world. You lead a party of four across a fading kingdom, and the whole thing is built around turn-based battles that reward thinking a turn or two ahead. Positioning matters, elemental combos matter, and the difficulty ramps in a way that keeps you engaged without grinding.
The writing is the quiet star here. The characters bicker, grow, and occasionally surprise you, and the game trusts you enough to leave some things unsaid. It's clearly a small team who cared about tone. The art is hand-drawn and holds up beautifully even on smaller screens.
Sessions save cleanly, so it fits mobile life — you can duck out mid-dungeon and pick up later. If you miss the era of compact, story-first RPGs, this scratches that itch nicely.
