Cozy games that don't hold your attention hostage
There's a whole category of mobile games designed to grab you and never let go — daily streaks, wilting timers, notifications begging you back. Cozy games, at their best, do the opposite. They wait.
Pixel Orchard is a good example. Step away for three days and your garden is exactly where you left it. No guilt, no punishment. It respects that you have a life outside the app, and paradoxically that makes me want to come back more.
The trick these games pull off is a satisfying small loop with no pressure attached. You do a few pleasant chores, unlock something new, and log off happy. It's the difference between a hobby and a chore.
If a cozy game starts stressing you out, that's a contradiction in terms. The good ones understand that the whole appeal is calm. Look for ones without hard timers or forced daily logins.
